Millerton Pollinator Garden

The Homero Gómez González / Raúl Hernández Pollinator Garden is located in the Village of Millerton, NY.

The Millerton Pollinator Garden came to life in 2020 when local gardener Mary Lynn Kalogeras converted part of the lawn in front of Dr. Kristie Schmidt’s office on Century Blvd. into a garden. Mary Lynn gathered some volunteers and donors to contribute time, plants and materials to turn about 500 sq. ft. of lawn into a pollinator garden, planting only species that are local to our area. Located between the Post Office and Town of North East Municipal Hall, and across the street from the North East-Millerton Library, the garden now provides pleasing sights and smells for passing humans, while feeding and sheltering native insects, including monarch butterflies that migrate through our area yearly. In 2024 the garden was renamed in honor of Homero Gómez González and Raúl Hernández — two Mexican environmentalists who were killed while protecting the winter home of these migrating monarch butterflies from illegal development.
